Introduction

Doutzen Kroes is a Dutch model and actress who started her modelling career in 2003, in the Netherlands and was sent by her agency to New York where she was cast by the lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret.

Early Life

She was born on 23rd January 1985 in the village of Eastermar Dutch Oostermeer. Her mother, Geartsje Leistra, was a nurse, and later on, became a teacher and her father, Johan Kroes, was a psychotherapist. 

In the 1970s, they were both champion speed skaters. As a young girl, Kroes was so motivated to be a professional speed skater.

She has a younger sister, Rens, who is a nutritionist.

Initially, she planned to follow in her parents’ footsteps and become a speed skater as well. She was raised alongside a younger sister, who later became a nutritionist. Apart from the fact that she would later become one of the biggest models in the world, she was not concerned with beauty at an early age. 

Career

Her priorities changed when she became eighteen years, and in 2003 she sent snapshots of herself to a modelling agency in Amsterdam. 

Just two years later, she had ranked at the top of the modelling world. After gaining public attention, she was voted “Model of the Year” by “Vogue” readers.

Two years later, she appeared on the cover of “Vogue” magazine for the first time. 

By that point in time, most observers agreed that she was part of a new breed of models that would later become the biggest personality in the fashion world, 

After that director, J.J.M. Jansen created a documentary about her & around as she worked during Milan Fashion Week.

In 2006, she signed a lucrative modelling contract with L’Oreal Paris, and as of 2020, she continues to work with this cosmetics giant. This contract is believed to be a major source of her income. 

Another major step she has taken when she was hired as a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2008. Over the next six years, she became a major part of the lingerie brand’s marketing plans, appearing in a number of their campaigns. This started with the Supermodel Obsessions campaign.
