Who is Gervonta Davis?
He is an American professional boxer who has competed in three weight classes including The World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight title since 2019, (WBA) super featherweight since 2020 & the (WBA) super lightweight since June 2021.
American boxing magazine The Ring magazine ranked him as the world’s best active super featherweight. Boxrec.com which is a website that holds the updated record of the professional boxer has listed his name as the world’s best active lightweight. For his tremendous punching power, his Knockout winning percentage is 96%.
He was born on 7th November 1994 in Baltimore, a Major City in Maryland in the United States. His father name is Garrin Davis & mother name is Kenya Brown.
He studied at Digital Harbor High School in Baltimore, Maryland but he dropped out to pursue his boxing career. Letter on he has completed his secondary degree at the General Educational Development.
He has started his boxing training at the age of six under Calvin Ford. On 22nd February 2013 at the age of eighteen, he has made his boxing debut against Desi Williams. Till August 2014 he has recorded eight win and no losses with all wins coming inside the distance.
On 20th February 2015 at The Claridge – A Radisson Hotel Atlantic City New Jersey he scored a Technical knockout, the ending of the competition by the referee decision when he thought that the player is unable to continue his competition in a safe mode. He scored the technical knockout within 1 minute 14 seconds into the fight.
On 12th September 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, he defeated Recky Dulay in only 94 seconds. On 15th November 2016 American multinational basic cable sports Channel ESPN announces that a Championship between him and Puerto Rican professional Boxer Jose Pedraza is going to take places on 14th January 2017 at the Barclays Center in New York City. He defeated Pedraza in the 7th round knockout to win the IBF super featherweight title. In the Championship he earned $ 75,000 (Rs 55.64 Lacs).
On 15th November 2017, CEO of Mayweather Promotions Leonard Ellerbe announced that he would remain at super featherweight and most probably take part in the Championship of the world title in 2018. In November 2018 he announced that he would fight against triple champion Mexican born American Professional boxer Abner Mares Martinez in South California. But the fight would not take places due to a career-ending injury of Mares.
On 28th December 2019, he fights against Ricardo Nunez to defend his second WBA super featherweight title. He beat Ricardo by second-round technical knockout in his home city Baltimore Maryland.
He made his Pay-per-view (PPV) debut on 31st October 2020.PPV is a type of pay television service by which viewer can purchase events to view via private telecast. He defended his lightweight title against grand slam champion Mexican professional boxer Leo Santa Cruz at the Alamodome San Antonio Texas. In the sixth round he caught Santa Cruz with a sharp left uppercut and the Mexican boxer immediately fell. The referee has to stop the fight and he defended his lightweight title. He selected as the winner of Ring magazine Knockout of the Year of 2020.
The first time in his career he moved to super lightweight to face undefeated WBA (Regular) champion American Professional boxer, Mario Thomas Barrios, on 26th June 2021 at the State Farm Arena Atlanta Georgia. In the eighth round knocking his opponent down twice and in the eleventh round he got round technical knockout victory.
