Who is Jason Derulo?

He is an American singer-songwriter and dancer who has sold over 30 million singles and have achieved eleven Platinum single including “Whatcha Say”, “Ridin’ Solo”, “In My Head”, “It Girl”, “Trumpets”, “Want to Want Me”, “Talk Dirty” & “Wiggle”. He becomes one of the prominent singers & songwriters of the current era.

His debut single “Whatcha Say” sold over five million digital downloads in 2009 with receiving a triple Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) & ranks on the top in the United States and New Zealand.

Early life

He was born on 21st September 1989 in Miramar, a city in southern Broward County, Florida, United States. He studied in performing arts schools in Florida and have started writing song since his age of eight. 

Career

His self-titled debut album was released on 2nd March 2010. He spent six weeks promoting the album in his appearances as one of the opening acts for American singer-songwriter Lady Gaga’s The Monster Ball Tour in 2010.

He recorded a track with American singer-songwriter Demi Lovato titled “Together” for her album Unbroken. His second studio album Future History was released on 27th September 2011. The leading single of the album “Don’t Wanna Go Home”, reached the number one position in the UK and the top five in Australia.

His third studio album Tattoos was released on 20th September 2013. On 15th  April 2014, he released the special edition of Tattoos in the UK, which included the 4 new songs from the Talk Dirty album.

He released the first single off his upcoming fourth studio album Everything Is 4  called “Want to Want Me”.The Song becomes the most added track in the history of Top 40 radio. It also ranks at number five on the Billboard hot 100. 

On 22nd January 2015, it’s announced that he would be a judge in the 12th season of So You Think You Can Dance along with American singer-dancer Paula Abdul.

On 29th June 2015, he announced the release of his first greatest hits album Platinum Hits. It was released on 29th July 2016 with a new song “Kiss the Sky” which appears on the soundtrack to the American 3D computer-animated adventure comedy movie Storks. The album featured eleven Platinum-certified singles.

On 24th February 2017, he released a new single “Swalla” featuring Trinidadian-born Rapper singer Nicki Minaj and  American Singer-songwriter Ty Dolla Sign. At the 2017 Billboard Music Award, he announced that his next studio album’s title would be 777.

His song “Goodbye” was released on 24th August 2018  featuring French DJ a record producer David Guetta, a French-Mauritian DJ, record producer Willy William & Nicki Minaj. Next year in 2019 he released the single “Let’s Shut Up & Dance” with Chinese rapper Lay Zhang &  South Korean boy band NCT 127. American singer and songwriter Ava Max was also featured on the “Make Up” a song by him which was released as a single on 23rd October 2018 under the Atlantic records.

His music based on pop but also attached to Contemporary R&B & Hip hop music. He told that his music has been inspired by American singer-dancer Michael Jackson. His other musical inspiration apart from Michael Jackson is including American singer-actor Elvis Presley, singer-songwriter Madonna, Prince, Usher & Justin Timberlake.
