She is an American novelist, philanthropist, and founding member of the American multinational e-commerce company Amazon. She is the ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. She is an authorised member of the campaign “The Giving Pledge”. It’s a campaign for encouraging extremely wealthiest people of the world to give at least 50% of his or her fortune in a lifetime. The relief fund donation would work toward Philanthropic causes around the globe.
She has made $ 5.8 billion (Rs 4,24,74.44 Cr) of Charitable donation which is the largest yearly distribution by an individual in 2020. She was born on 7th April 1970 in San Francisco, the commercial and financial centre in Northern California, United States. In 1988 She becomes graduate from The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, a census-designated place in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. In 1992 she completed her bachelor’s degree in English at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. There she studied under the Nobel laureate in literature Toni Morrison.
After she becomes a graduate she started her career at the D. E. Shaw & Co as a research associate. A Multinational investment management company based in New York City. She was interviewed by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos who was then a vice-president at the firm.
She wrote her debut novel in 2005 “The Testing of Luther Albright” as a housewife it took ten years to complete the novel. Next year in 2006 she won the American Book Award.
In 1993 she married Jeff Bezos. After one year in 1994, they both left the company D. E. Shaw & Co moved to Seattle, west cost seaport in the United States and started e-commerce company Amazon.
They got divorced in 2019. After they got separated in 2019 she left out with $ 35.6 billion (Rs 26,07,05.20 Cr) in Amazon stock. She becomes the third wealthiest women in the world and one of the wealthiest people in the world billionaires list in 2019.
After her divorce, she married high school chemistry teacher Dan Jewett as per The Giving Pledge letter posted on 6th March 2021.
Forbes listed her name as the 22nd-richest person in the world in July 2020 with a net worth of $ 36 billion (Rs 26,36,34.48 Cr). Same year by September she becomes the world’s richest woman & by the year-end in December 2020, her net worth was $ 62 billion (Rs 45,40,37.16 Cr).
Social responsibility and Charity
American online publishing platform Medium post in July 2020 that she has donated $ 1.7 billion (Rs 1,24,49.40 Cr) to some nonprofit organisation that works on racial equality and climate change. Along with this her other donation including Historically black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institution, tribal colleges and universities and others crossed $ 800 million (Rs 58,58.54 Cr).
In December 2020 she again donated $4.15 billion (Rs 3,03,91.19 Cr) among 384 organizations affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. In 2020 her total donation is around $ 5.8 billion (Rs 4,24,74.44 Cr) one of the largest yearly individual contribution by a private individual working towards charities.
