It was an American romantic comedy movie directed by the Canadian director Norman  Jewison. The movie becomes the 5th highest-grossing movie of 1987 in North America. She is known globally for her acting talent. She has left her family with a million dollars of fortune.

Early Life of Olympia Dukakis

She was born in Lowell city which is in Massachusetts in the United States. She was born on 20th June 1931. Daughter of  Alexandra “Alec”  & and Constantine “Costa” S. Dukakis, were Greek Americans. A former student of Arlington High School located in Arlington Massachusetts she completed her major in Physical therapy at Boston University. After completed this she also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in performing arts.

Career

Before her movie career, she began a decades-long stage life working in 1961.

In her movie career, she performed in numerous blockbuster movie such as the American comedy-drama movie Steel Magnolias in 1989. American drama movie Mr Holland’s Opus in 1995 was directed by American director Stephen Robert Herek. In the 1998 comedy movie Mafia directed by the American director James  Abrahams. American drama movie The Thing About My Folks in 2005 directed by the American director Raymond De Felitta.

Directed by the Canadian director Norman  Jewison the movie Moonstruck in 1987 brings her many prestigious honour for her performance in the movie. She receives The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress & also received the Golden Globe in the same category. With a production budget of $ 15 million (Rs 1,11.14 Cr), it collects worldwide  $80.6 million (Rs 5,97.20 Cr) at that time in 1987. 

We should not forget that her upcoming movie in 2021 is Not To Forget aims to raise awareness and funds for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. The movie directed by Valerio Zanoli.

Personal Life

She married American actor Louis Zorich in 1962. They have three children named  Christina, Peter and Stefan.

For 10 years she studied with Indian mentor Srimata Gayatri Devi in the school of Hindu philosophy named Vedanta. She is the symbol as a fighter for women’s rights &  Same-sex marriage. 

An American documentary film about her life and career Olympia released in 2018, The film, directed by Harry Mavromichalis. It was released theatrically in the United States on July 9, 2020.

In 2008 She directed the world premiere production of Todd Logan’s “Botanic Garden” at Victory Gardens Theatre in Illinois which is the state in  The midwestern United States.

Death

OSCAR-winning Moonstruck star died on  1st  May 2021, at the age of 89 at her home in Manhattan.
