Early Life

He was born on 2nd May 1990 in Palmdale, California & grew up with two older sisters who played basketball, he was a big fan of the Lakers and the Clippers as a child. When he was studying at high school, George joined his first organized basketball team.

Despite he wasn’t considered a major prospect by most universities across the nation, he had offers from Santa Clara University and Pepperdine University & ultimately chose Fresno State because he thought that he would have more playing time. During his two-year study at college, he made a name for himself with a number of impressive performances. He even gained the title of “the most entertaining player in the West region.”

Career

By 2010, he was ready to join the NBA who made himself eligible for the 2010 NBA draft and was selected tenth overall by the Indiana Pacers. That same year, the Pacers made it to the playoffs, but they lost to the Chicago Bulls. Next season, the Pacers lost once again in the playoffs, this time against the Miami Heat.

By the 2012-2013 season, he had been shifted from shooting guard to small forward. His defensive and offensive capabilities became an integral part of the Pacers’ strategy from this point onward, and he was also gained the NBA Most Improved Player. In 2013, he extended his contract with the Pacers as the team made him their designated player. Unfortunately, the team was eliminated from the Eastern Conference Finals by the Miami Heat once again.

In the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat, he made a three-point field goal at the end of the fourth quarter to tie the game and force an overtime period. Apart from George making all 3 free-throws and putting his team up 102–101, the Pacers ultimately lost as LeBron James drove in for a buzzer-beater lay-up.

In 2014, he joined the training camp for the US national team in preparation for the FIBA Basketball World Cup but once again he suffered a broken leg during the training camp, which led him to miss almost all of the 2014-2015 season. But he returned earlier than expected, it wasn’t until 2015-2016 that he had his full comeback.

During the 2014 off-season, he was named to the training camp roster for the US national team that would represent the country at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain. George had been considered a virtual lock to make the roster, but he landed awkwardly at the base of a basket stanchion after fouling James Harden during a Las Vegas scrimmage on August 1st and suffered a compound fracture of both bones in his lower right leg.

After another season with the Pacers, he joined the Oklahoma City Thunder. Apart from signing a lucrative contract extension with the Thunder in 2018, he left the team in 2019 to join the Los Angeles Clippers. A slow start due to shoulder surgery, he played well throughout the next few years and signed a four-year contract extension with the Clippers in 2020.
