She was born in Balali on 5th March 1998. It is a village in Charki Dadri district in the state of Haryana. Her father Mahabir Singh Phogat, & Her mother’s name is Daya Kaur.

She is the younger sister of Babita Phogat. Including her, she has six sisters. According to their date of birth, the name of all sisters is Geeta,  Babita, Priyanka, Ritu, Vinesh,& Sangita. Rajpal Phogat the brother of Mahabir Singh Phogat. After his brother passed away, they were brought up by Mahabir Singh Phogat. Gita, Babita, Ritu  & Sangita are daughters of Mahavir Singh Phogat. 

Three of her elder sisters are Olympic Qualifier & other two is world Champions. 

Career

She has represented Delhi Sultans in the pro-Wrestling League against the Vanesa Kaladzinskaya, who is also an Olympians & has represented her country at the 2012 London Olympics.

She has given one of the best performance in the contest & has defeated Belarusian Wrestler. She won the match. She has unfolded her happiness in an interview of defeating a world champion. She told that any victory motivates her to do better in the Asian Games.

She is now focusing on the World Wrestling Championships 

Personal Life

She married to World Champions wrestler Bajrang Punia according to a leading newspaper NabBharat  Times. They got married on the 25th of November 2020 in their home village.
