She is a Romanian professional tennis player who has ranked world No. 1 in singles twice between 2017 and 2019, of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings. She was also the year-end No. 1 in 2017 and 2018. From 2014 through 2021, she was ranked in the top 10 for 373 consecutive weeks, the eighth-longest in WTA history.
During this seven-year she achieved each year ranked no lower than No. 4. She is the first Romanian player to win a Wimbledon singles title.

She was born on 27th September 1991 in Constanța, which is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Romania. Her father Stere Halep played lower-division football for AS Sageata Stejaru and worked as a zootechnics technician before becoming the owner of a dairy products factory. And mother Tania Halep, who is of Aromanian descent.
She turned pro in 2006 and started her professional career playing low-level $10K (Rs 7.30 Lacs) ITF Women’s Circuit events in Romania in 2006 and 2007.
She won her first career Grand Slam matches at the 2011 Australian Open, defeating Luxembourgish retired tennis player Anne Kremer and Russian former Alisa Kleybanova to reach the third round. Her first breakthrough came at the 2013 Italian Open, where she reached the semifinals as a qualifier. She defeated three top 20 players at the Premier 5 event, Agnieszka Radwańska before losing to Serena Williams.
She reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the 2014 Australian Open with a victory over No. 8, Jelena Janković. In the second round of the 2015 French Open, she was upset by Mirjana Lučić-Baroni for the second time in the last three majors. She also made her first career WTA doubles final at the Canadian Open, finishing runner-up to Russian former professional Ekaterina Makarova and Russian professional Elena Vesnina alongside compatriot Monica Niculescu.
She defended her title at the 2017 Madrid Open to secure a Premier Mandatory title for the third consecutive year. She also made the final the following week at the Premier 5 Italian Open, but finished runner-up to Ukrainian professional Elina Svitolina. She defeated Czech professional Karolína Plíšková in the semifinals in three sets to make her second final at the French Open.
She did not win any titles on clay in the lead-up to the French Open, with her best result being a runner-up finish at the 2018 Italian Open to Elina Svitolina in a rematch of the previous year’s final. She lost her first match back at the 2019 Sydney International to the eventual runner-up Australian professional Ashleigh Barty. After opening with a victory over Canadian Bianca Andreescu, she did not advance out of her round-robin group after losing to Elina Svitolina and Karolína Plíšková.
She finished the season at No. 4 in the world. She started the 2020 WTA Tour at the new tournament in Adelaide, where she defeated Croatian-Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, but lost in the quarterfinals to Belarusian professional Aryna Sabalenka. At the 2020 Australian Open, Halep reached the semifinals, where she lost to Spanish-Venezuelan professional Garbine Muguruza, after having defeated American professional tennis player Jennifer Brady. At the 2020 French Open, she was the heavy favourite and won her first three matches in straight sets, until losing to eventual champion Polish professional Iga Świątek in the fourth round.
